SFJAZZ Collective Plays the Music of Miles Davis at Jazz Standard – NYC Events

More than any other single figure, Miles Davis changed the sound of jazz – not once but repeatedly over his career, from the birth of bebop in the 1940s to the integration of rock and R&B elements that gave rise to the fusion movement in the 1970s. The SFJAZZ Collective highlights the trumpeter/composer’s immense diversity of expression on its new CD Music of Miles Davis, interpreting epochal work from Davis’ endlessly inventive songbook. Now in its 14th year, “the SFJAZZ Collective idea really works where other all–star bands have failed. They’ve created a setting where the brilliance of every player comes through in harmony with the others.” (Kansas City Star) As in its prior explorations of the music of Stevie Wonder, Joe Henderson, and Michael Jackson, the all–star SFJAZZ Collective will bring to our stage its singular blend of incisive lyricism, harmonic insight and rhythmic energy.
