“We were in the process of Steven getting his patch that was going to be on his front piece. He earned this patch. He passed his probation with flying colors. This patch will be on his helmet that we present to his family at the funeral,” said FDNY Captain Jimmy Quinn, Ladder 170. At the end of the probationary period for each Firefighter, they receive their company front piece which is placed on their helmet. Firefighter Steven H. Pollard was to receive his this month. It will be presented posthumously to his family today, Friday, January 11. Firefighter Pollard died from critical injuries sustained while operating at a motor vehicle accident on the Mill Basin Bridge in Brooklyn on Sunday, January 6, 2019. He was appointed as a Firefighter in June of 2017 and assigned to Ladder Company 170 in Brooklyn. He is the 1,151st member of the Department to make the Supreme Sacrifice in the line-of-duty. Firefighter Pollard is survived by his mother, Janet; father, retired Firefighter Raymond Pollard who served for 32 years in the FDNY; and his brother, Firefighter Raymond Pollard, an 11-year veteran of Ladder Company 114 in Brooklyn.
