4-Alarm Fire Tears Through Yonkers Apartment Building, Hundreds Displaced

YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — Firefighters were on the scene of a four-alarm fire that ripped through an apartment building in Yonkers Tuesday night.

Officials say the fast-moving flames broke out around 6:15 p.m. in the six-story complex on Parkview Avenue.

There are no reported injuries, but every firefighter in the city was on the scene Tuesday. The mayor says they will likely be working well into the morning to extinguish the blaze.

“It started on this end as you can see it went all around the building and it’s completely engulfed,” Mayor Mike Spano said.

“When you look at a building like that you know it has to be well over 75-years-old. There’s lots of places for fire to hide in places like that and when they get started they get stubborn and don’t want to stop.”
