On an early morning in April 2018, Lt. Glenn Harris led the members of Ladder 142 to a heavy fire in a home in Queens. As they arrived, occupants were screaming that at least three people were trapped inside on the third floor. Firefighter Andrew Mussler secured a door to the fire area, and Lt. Harris rushed up the stairs past the fire into the attic apartment, and secured the door to protect those who were trapped. The fire then auto-exposed into a window on the third floor, further endangering the lives of those trapped. As Lt. Harris searched the apartment, he found two people in different areas of the apartment and worked with Firefighter Mussler to remove them to safety. Lt. Harris then located two additional occupants, and worked with Firefighters from Ladder 142 to remove them by a 35-foot portable ladder. For bravely executing a careful and coordinated rescue of multiple individuals trapped in a heavy fire, the John H. Prentice Medal will be awarded to Lieutenant Glenn Harris, and the American Legion Fire Department Post 930/Mark M. Wohlfeld Memorial Medal will be awarded to Firefighter Andrew Mussler, at the 2019 FDNY Medal Day Ceremony.
